What Google announced
Google positions Gemini 3.8 Flash as a general workhorse for software engineering, agentic tasks, and specialized multi-step reasoning. The company says it improves substantially over Gemini 3.7 Flash while keeping the same speed and low-cost positioning.
Flash Cyber uses the same foundational intelligence but is configured for vulnerability detection and automated patching with a more permissive cybersecurity mitigation profile. Google says access is limited to trusted governments, critical-infrastructure operators, and software maintainers that need broader defensive-security capabilities, with access managed through the Fairwind Program.

- Gemini 3.8 Flash: $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens during the introductory period.
- Google’s footnote says the introductory price runs through December 31, 2026. From January 1, 2027, the listed prices become $1.50 and $7.50 respectively.

How to read the “2.6x more correct patches” claim
Google’s Chrome Security team says Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber produced 2.6 times more correct Chrome vulnerability patches than the best of “much larger” commercial models. Google Cloud Vulnerability Research also says it found a critical vulnerability in a foundational system in less than two hours.
These are currently vendor-disclosed test and case-study results. The public announcement does not provide a complete reproducible sample, task mix, cost accounting, false-positive rate, or human-review protocol. The defensible conclusion is that security teams may include it in an isolated defensive proof of concept—not that the two figures establish general cybersecurity superiority.
Practical impact for developers and AI businesses
For high-volume short agent tasks, one call with 1 million input tokens and 250,000 output tokens would cost about $1.69 at the introductory rates. That is arithmetic, not a revenue promise. Real unit economics also include tool calls, retrieval, retries, human review, hosting, and acquisition.
A useful evaluation plan is:
- Build a 30–50 task set from real work and record success rate, human handoff rate, latency, and token usage.
- Compare Flash with the incumbent model under the same context, tool permissions, and retry ceiling.
- Run security tasks only in an isolated environment with no default production writes; log patch buildability, test pass rate, false positives, and rollback count.
- Put the pricing end date into the cost model instead of treating the 2026 introductory price as permanent.
If you sell code review, vulnerability triage, or operations automation, treat Gemini 3.8 Flash as a candidate for reducing task cost and validate it before turning Google’s security figures into external promises.
